The deadline for the SIM card registration will not be extended further, according to Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communications and Digitalization.

The Minister advised Ghanaians to take advantage of the ongoing process, which will finish on July 31, 2022, and encourage anyone who hasn’t registered their SIM cards to do so. This was said by her at a National Communications Authority (NCA) meeting in Kumasi. I’ll take this chance to urge everyone who hasn’t registered their SIM cards to do so because the deadline of July 31, 2022, won’t be extended, she said. She added that the initiative will eventually aid in the creation of a reliable and secure SIM Card database in Ghana.

According to her, this essentially emphasizes the idea that this work will enable the construction of a subscriber database with integrity to safeguard customers from fraud and scams. Initial SIM card re-registration began on October 1 of 2021 and ended on March 31, 2022. However, the Ministry prolonged it until July 31, 2022 because the bulk of Ghanaians hadn’t yet obtained their Ghana cards.

Most individuals use mobile devices to access the internet. We must guarantee that they perform it safely. One of the initiatives the government is taking in that regard is the SIM registration program. We must make it challenging for the criminals to operate who breach our systems and con us via numerous online channels.

For SIM registration, only the Ghana card may be used as a form of identification. Over 12 million Ghanaians, according to the Communications Ministry, had linked their SIM cards to their Ghana cards as of this writing.

According to Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah of the National Identification Authority (NIA), who spoke to Citi FM on Thursday, July 21, more than 15.7 million Ghanaians have currently gotten their Ghana cards. According to Prof. Attafuah’s research, as of today, about 16,535,623 Ghana Cards have been printed for the 16,969,034 people who have registered for them.
