The business says the allegations are unfounded and the public should ignore them.
ECG explained in a statement written by Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, General Manager of External Communications, that the event concerned a customer who had a GH¢6,519.38 outstanding balance since September 2024.
On January 24, 2025, ECG employees paid a visit to the client’s residence as part of a continuous revenue mobilization initiative called “Operation Keep the Lights On.” They chose to disconnect the facility as a result of the infraction after finding an illegal self-re connection during this visit.
The consumer allegedly resisted the disconnection procedure and brandished a machete in an attempt to intimidate the ECG employees.
In order to safely finish the disconnection, the team then asked the police for help.
Direct disconnection was done from the pole outside the building. According to reports, the fire started later in the day, long after the ECG staff had departed.
According to ECG’s statement, cutting off the pole’s electricity is a routine practice that has no bearing on the occurrence of fires.
The business emphasized that these accusations are baseless and inconsistent with its business procedures.
“ECG wishes to state categorically that disconnection of power supply directly from a pole totally curtails electricity supply to the affected premises and CANNOT, by any means, result in a fire outbreak. Thus, the customer’s allegation against ECG is completely false. Disconnection has been part of our operations, backed by law, to ensure that recalcitrant customers pay for the electricity they consume,”
The statement provided some explanation.
Additionally, the business informed the public of its dedication to professionalism and safety, stressing that it would never take any measures that would endanger the lives or property of its clients..
