The Electoral Commission (EC) recalled the faulty ballots, which were destroyed under the supervision of the Ghana Police Service and the Eastern Regional Elections Security Taskforce on Tuesday, December 3.
Every political party’s constituency election director closely supervised the exercise, keeping an eye on it from their numerous armories to the regional disposal site on the Akwadum road.
Because of these violations, the EC halted the Eastern and Western regions’ Special Voting exercise.
All 31 constituencies that submitted ballots for the presidential and legislative elections were destroyed, with the exception of Afram Plains North and South Constituencies.
John Appiah Baffour, the Electoral Commission’s Eastern Regional Director, told Citi News that he was happy with the procedure.
“The exercise has been very successful. Actually, we brought all the parties together and the constituency executives of the NPP, NDC, and CPP, and all of them have been here. They checked the seals on the ballot paper bags, and they saw that everything was intact before we offloaded them and burned them. So it has been very successful.”
