A sprinter car traveling from Kumasi to Accra was involved in an accident near Kyerewere on the Nsawam-Suhum route, injuring 15 people.
According to eyewitnesses, the tragedy occurred when the sprinter, which was allegedly overspeeding, went off the road when the driver attempted to apply the brakes after noticing a tire had burst.
The unexpected manoeuvre led the vehicle to lose control, resulting in three individuals falling onto the road. During the event, one of the women’s legs became trapped between the car doors.
Three of the 15 passengers were in critical condition and were transported to the hospital, with one allegedly in critical condition. There are also unsubstantiated rumors that the vehicle’s passenger may have died in the incident, but this has yet to be confirmed.
A witness at the scene stated: “I was eating when I heard the loud sound of a tyre break. When I went to verify, I noticed it was a sprinter. Because of the overspeeding, the driver lost control while attempting to stop the vehicle, and three passengers were thrown out.
“I quickly rushed to help one woman whose leg was trapped between the doors. The vehicle was speeding from Kumasi to Accra, and the tyre burst causing it to veer into the bush.”
The police are currently on scene, controlling the situation and conducting investigations.
