1 Min Read

A task team from the National Association of Small Scale Miners conducted a big operation on the River Mankraso in the Ahafo Ano South West District on Wednesday, September 11, targeting illegal mining activities, colloquially known as galamsey.
The task force found numerous pieces of equipment that the illegal miners were using during the raid. But the miners left their equipment and tools on the riverside and ran away as soon as they saw the task group.
The task team chose to demolish the abandoned mining machines because they had no one to apprehend. Dredging machinery and other equipment were found on the river, and they were set on fire.
As more evidence, other things including motors, tanks, and water pumps were seized.

According to a spokeswoman for the Small Scale Miners Association, the task force is dedicated to stepping up efforts to combat galamsey, particularly operations that damage river bodies.
They stressed that the group will not accept unlawful mining that harms the environment.
The group restated its commitment to protecting Ghana’s natural resources and promised to continue fighting unlawful mining to protect the environment for future generations.
