Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong, also known as Black Sherif, a multiple award-winning Ghanaian singer, has been the first Ghanaian artist to reach 500 million listens on Boomplay, Africa’s largest digital music platform.
Boomplay celebrated the milestone on X (previously Twitter) with a happy post that read: “KILOS MILLIONS! Congratulations to Iron Boy, the trailblazer @blacksherif_, and his followers for hitting a staggering 500 million cumulative streams on #Boomplay!
In response to the achievement, Black Sherif expressed gratitude to his fans, adding, “This is a dream come true.” I am really grateful for the affection and support of my fans in Ghana and around the world. This is only the beginning, and I am happy to share more songs with you all.”
Born on January 9, 2002, in Konongo, a community in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, Black Sherif combines Afrobeat, Trap, and Drill music to produce a distinct sound that appeals to both local and worldwide listeners.
He rose to prominence in 2021 with his hit tune “Second Sermon,” which went viral throughout social media channels. This hit, along with its remix featuring Nigerian musician Burna Boy, catapulted him into the spotlight, winning him a big fan base and critical acclaim.
Prior to his breakthrough, Black Sherif released “First Sermon,” which received widespread attention and created the framework for his triumph. He is noted for his passionate songs, which frequently depict the difficulties and ambitions of Ghanaian youths.
In addition to his success with “Second Sermon,” Black Sherif continued to create famous tracks such as “Kwaku the Traveller,” solidifying his spot in the African music market. His unique approach, which combines genuine emotion with rhythmic beats, has elevated him to the ranks of Ghana’s most influential young performers.
