The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has promised to deploy 50,000 CCTV cameras around Ghana’s major cities in order to improve security and fight crime.
While running for the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, he made this pledge.
Dr. Bawumia claims that 50,000 CCTV cameras are required to cover every route in regional and district capitals, based on a study conducted by security organisations.
He pointed out that not all streets have CCTV installed, even if the government has begun to do so.
In order to generate jobs for Ghanaians, Dr. Bawumia further underlined the significance of advocating for a “Buy Ghana First” policy.
He thinks businesses would grow and more jobs will be created if Ghanaians purchase more locally made things.
Dr. Bawumia visited with chiefs, pastors, and imams in the Ashongman Estate region while on his campaign tour.
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Ocquaye gave Dr. Bawumia great marks, emphasising both his contributions to the party and his capacity for thought.
“When there were controversies about election matters and we had gathered a lot of information, Frank Davis and others toiled but how to put the things together in an acceptable formula for court, that work was done by Dr. Bawumia, today he has another name called Mr. pink sheet.”
“All matters as to how we use the pink sheet to look after the controversies of the election, that was the man who stood in court. You could see the star in him but I say it’s a gift. If you don’t take advantage of such a gift, it’s your own cause.”
Along with outlining the NPP government’s accomplishments, Dr. Bawumia stressed the necessity for increased security measures, including as the installation of CCTV cameras.
“I called national security, and I said what will it take for Ghana to have CCTV on all the streets in all of our regional capitals and all of our district capitals so that we can see any crime that is taking place, we can at least have a clue.”
“So, they came back to me, and they said they need 50000 CCTV cameras, and they are going to get 50000 CCTV cameras, we are going to provide so that the police can have visibility for every movement because we don’t have many police officers.”
