The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has vigorously rejected recent media accusations regarding the deaths of 20 renal patients and outstanding supplier debts.
In a statement made on Tuesday, hospital administration addressed two significant claims: that 20 patients died as a result of a lack of renal dialysis consumables, and that these shortages were caused by the facility’s alleged debt to suppliers.
KBTH emphatically disputed these charges, noting that there is no reality to the assertion that 20 renal patients died this year as a result of a dialysis consumables shortage.
“We have no record of any deaths during the period of shortages at the Renal Dialysis Unit,” the statement read.
The charges were based on a misinterpretation of a media brochure and sensationalised Facebook comments.
In response to the second complaint, the hospital certified that the Ministry of Health had settled all supplier arrears.
“Currently, Korle Bu does not owe GH¢6 million to the supplier as being falsely alleged,”
The statement emphasised.
The hospital also stated that it got a new supply of dialysis consumables through the Tema port last week, with a second consignment now being processed. Inpatient dialysis services started on August 12, and outpatient services are likely to be restored by the end of the week.
The management asked the public to dismiss the bogus accusations, which they feel are designed to instill fear and worry.
