The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed intentions to improve the Cape Coast Airport in the event that he is elected president in the December polls.
On Sunday, August 18, Dr. Bawumia made an announcement during the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi, saying that $2 billion in funding had been obtained from Korean investors to start building the facility.
Dr. Bawumia outlined his government’s plan to revolutionize Ghana’s aviation industry while highlighting the significance of building out public infrastructure.
He promised to help the Tamale Airport become a hub for logistics, horticulture cargo, and aircraft cargo by facilitating the construction of a private sector-led Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility.
In keeping with his pledge to improve Ghana’s aviation infrastructure and foster economic growth, Dr. Bawumia has committed to construct a new airport in the Upper East Region, in addition to the expansion of Cape Coast Airport.
“[I will] Facilitate the establishment, by the private sector, of a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the Tamale Airport, to develop it into an aviation cargo, horticultural cargo, and logistics hub, commence the development of the Cape Coast Airport, for which funding has been secured under the Korean $2 billion facility, in collaboration with the private sector, build an airport in the Upper East Region.”
