Renowned Canadian singer Celine Dion made light of the song choice in a statement she posted on Saturday, August 10, 2024, criticising the former president Donald Trump’s campaign for using her music at a rally in a “unauthorised” manner.
Throughout 2023 and 2024, the crooner’s well-known song “My Heart Will Go On” has been played at multiple Trump campaign events. Her statement, however, made clear that she and her management team were only now aware of its use; in particular, it mentioned its performance at Trump’s event on Friday, August 9, in Bozeman, Montana.
”Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana,”
Dion remarked in a message that was uploaded to her Instagram and X pages.
“In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use. … And really, THAT song?”
The hit ballad from 1997 was utilised as the theme song for the ground-breaking movie “Titanic,” which starred Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio and told the story of a passionate relationship set against the terrible backdrop of the Titanic’s sinking.
