On Wednesday, July 24, citizens of the Western North Region’s Sefwi-Wiawso constituency protested against Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin, calling for an apology for kicking out their member, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie.
Speaker Bagbin asked Dr. Afriyie to leave the chamber after finding several of his remarks to be impolite, which sparked the issue.
Dr. Afriyie stated he was not the author of the apology and that he had done nothing wrong, despite Majority Chief Whip Frank Annor-Dompreh expressing regret on his behalf.
In response, a number of residents who seemed to be New Patriotic Party (NPP) members protested against Speaker Bagbin, describing his actions as unfortunate and insulting to their MP and the people of Sefwi-Wiawso.
If their requests are not fulfilled, they have threatened to take further action and are seeking an unconditional apology within a week.
