WHAT HAPPENED?
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Olmo’s €60 million release clause expires on Tuesday, and City intends to sign him. The Premier League winners, Spain, will reportedly activate his clause after the tournament. Spain will play England in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday night.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Olmo might start in Kevin De Bruyne’s place at the Etihad Stadium. The Belgium international has been strongly connected to a move to Saudi Arabia, and City is reportedly prepared to permit the deal to go place in exchange for a payment of £50 million ($64 million).
DID YOU KNOW?
In 2023–2024, De Bruyne had an injury-plagued season that resulted in just 26 appearances across all competitions. He did, however, offer 24 goal involvements.
In contrast, Olmo played in 25 games for RB Leipzig, tallying five assists and eight goals. In five games at Euro 2024, he has also contributed two assists and three goals.
WHAT NEXT?
City needs to act fast because Olmo’s release clause is about to expire. Leipzig may be able to demand a larger price if they are unable to set it off.
