In response to the latest scandal surrounding Chef Ebenezer Smith, also known as Chef Smith, Kwame Sefa Kayi has expressed shock and dismay.
The chef made up the claim that he was officially recognized by Guinness World Records (GWR) as the individual record holder for the longest cooking marathon.
On July 2, 2024, Chef Smith said that he had broken the previous record with an 802 hour and 25 minute cooking marathon. He made this revelation during a news conference while holding a Guinness World Records certificate.
It has subsequently been discovered, although, that the certificate is phony. On July 3, 2024, Kwame Sefa Kayi addressed the matter on his Kokrokoo show and expressed his bewilderment and disappointment at the incident.
“Those who follow the Guinness Book of World Records cook-a-thon, I learned a man called Chef Smith had a press conference telling Ghanaians that he had won the cook-a-thon, but that is not true. But I’m really pained about it; why would you do that?…this is unfortunate. This is sad,” he stated.
Derek Edem Kojo, a journalist with GhOne TV, questioned the authenticity of Chef Smith’s claim by contacting the Guinness World Record. In response to his inquiry, Madalyn Bielfield, PR Manager for Guinness World Records, confirmed that the certificate presented by Chef Smith was not genuine and that Alan Fisher is the current record holder.
“No, this is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate,” Bielfield affirmed.
According to a recent report, he failed to submit any official application or proof of his eight hours and fifty minutes of cooking to the Guinness World Record for the record attempt, which is a necessary condition for their acceptance.
But Ebenezer Smith, the Ghanaian chef, has a manager who insists he and his client received an official email from the Guinness World Records office announcing his record-breaking performance. Ebenezer Smith is also known as Chef Smith.
