McCarthy Hill residents in Accra’s Weija Gbawe municipality are pleading with Ghana Water Company Limited to fix the patchy water supply in their neighborhood.
The severe lack of water has been affecting the locals for about three months, which is difficult.
The locals claim that although there is an increased demand for water, there is not enough supply, making the situation intolerable.
They claim that the water scarcity has been going on for months and that nothing has been done to address it in spite of their protests.
“It’s been troubling us,” a resident told Citi News, expressing her dissatisfaction. Our kids have to walk a long way in the morning to get water before they can get ready for school because we have kids. That significantly concerns us. Furthermore, there isn’t any water when we get home from work. The tap doesn’t start flowing when you open it. When you file a complaint, they admit that there is a problem, but they withhold the details.
The locals claim they have complained to the Assembly Member, who has acknowledged that there is an issue with one of the water works’ machines, but that nothing has been done to fix it.
“We complained to the Assembly Member here, and she said she would look into it. Later, she confirmed to us that they reported a problem somewhere, one of their machines is broken down. We went to the waterworks, and they said they would come and fix it but haven’t done so. We need water. If there’s a problem with the pump, they need to replace it.”
To guarantee a steady supply of water, they are pleading with the Ghana Water Company Limited to replace the malfunctioning pump.
