Before the general elections of 2024, Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu, the Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, has encouraged politicians to cease indoctrinating young people into a life of violence.
Concerning the multiple violent incidents documented during the current limited voter registration campaign, he voiced his concerns.
Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu claims that the violent pockets validate people’s worries and anxieties about the impending elections in December.
Stakeholders are concerned about the recent wave of violent occurrences during the ongoing limited voter registration drive, claiming that the violence portends dangers for the general elections in 2024.
Nonetheless, Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu has cast doubt on the viability of nonviolent elections. Thus, he pleaded with politicians to refrain from indoctrinating young people into a violent mindset.
At a news conference held by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to announce the start of its Inter-Party Dialogue Committees, he urged young people to remain watchful and resist being manipulated by politicians to stir up conflict.
“I address the young people in our nation. No politician is worth another person’s blood. Let politics not spark bloodshed on our land this year. Politicians, be careful not to instill a violent mindset in our youth. Recent voter registration confirms our concerns and fears of potential violence in December
Very Rev. Father Clement Kwasi Adjei, the Secretary General of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, cautioned the media against supporting politicians or political parties that incorporate religion into politics due to the potential risks involved.
“I implore the media to refrain from featuring any politician or political party that incorporates religion into their platform. It is exceedingly risky. We can tell how effective religion is if a pastor can persuade someone to pursue his mother.
Religion turns into opium if it is misapplied. Never give in to pressure to incorporate religion into politics through your platform.
