Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, has allegedly been the target of “unfair criticism,” according to Rasmus Hojlund, despite rumors of a possible falling out.
Amid alarming rumours that the Danish striker and his team-mate had fallen out over a lack of support up front, the striker jumped to the defense of his colleague. Instead, in a recent interview, Hojlund praised Fernandes’ creative contribution to the United team, following his recent hint that his future might not be at Old Trafford. Fernandes is a former playmaker for Sporting Lisbon.
Along with his 15 goals, Portugal international Fernandes has amassed 11 assists in 45 appearances, six more than any other player in the team. He leads the Red Devils in assist production across all competitions. The 29-year-old’s most recent help came last Wednesday at Old Trafford when he set up Hojlund’s late goal in the 4-2 triumph over Sheffield United.
Hojlund said on BBC Sport’s Football Focus regarding Fernandes’ assist against the Blades: “I just want to tell him: ‘Thanks for the ball, Bruno!'” Since he also receives a lot of criticism, I was thrilled for him. It’s unfair because he’s a terrific captain and consistently performs at the highest level.”
