In an effort to show her appreciation to her followers, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, who recently made an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon, has announced that she will be starting a “Thank You tour.”
On March 19, Afua Asantewaa revealed via her Twitter account that she would be embarking on a tour as a way of giving back to her Canadian supporters.
“I have a tall list of countries I am so grateful to for their immense support for me during my GWR record attempt. It’s time to say thank you, beginning with all Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians in Toronto, Canada,”
She shared.
In an attempt to surpass the current world record of 105 hours set by Sunil Waghmare in 2012, she sang for 126 hours and 52 minutes at the Akwaaba Village in Accra in December 2023.
Nevertheless, Afua’s failed attempt to surpass the existing record for the longest singing by an individual—which she performed in December 2023—was revealed by the Guinness World Record last month.
On December 29, 2023, she finished her singing marathon at 126 hours and 52 minutes. Her goal was to surpass the record held by Indian singer Sunil Waghmare, who sang for 105 hours in 2012.
However, Afua Asaantewaa’s effort was unsuccessful due to “break timings not being met,” which the GWR explains is “a standard rule across all of our [GWR] longest marathon records,” as they clarified later in February 2024.
