According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), there is now greater camaraderie at Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meetings.
In January of this year, the party decided to change its mind and stop attending IPAC sessions.
IPAC meetings give different political parties a forum to discuss election-related policies and activities, formally air grievances, and make positive contributions. The committee serves as the Electoral Commission’s advisory body in addition.
Citing a “lack of candour, odious duplicity, and open bias” shown by the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission (EC) in favor of the New Patriotic Party during the 2020 general elections, NDC leadership boycotted IPAC sessions in 2021.
But in January of this year, the decision was reversed after “enhanced consensus-building.”
IPAC meetings are now quite friendly and nice, according to Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, who made this revelation in an Eyewitness News interview with Selorm Adonoo on Citi FM on Thursday.
He noticed that the EC was suddenly engaging quite effectively during such sessions, having experienced a transformation.
“It was very cordial. Don’t forget this year happens to be the third IPAC meeting that we attended. The first IPAC meeting was on 22nd February 2024. The second was on 29th February, and 7th March. So it’s been cordial since we returned to IPAC.”
“…It appears they have changed…It is not very cordial, very lovely. Not acrimonious. It is like the IPAC we used to know. That is consensus-building,” he stated.
