Later today, on January 24, 2024, the three-member panel overseeing the high treason case involving ACP Benjamin Agordzo is anticipated to render a decision about the accused parties’ fate.
Eight people, including the late Dr. Mac Palm and ACP Benjamin Agordzo, were charged with high treason and conspiracy to commit high treason in 2021.
Following a police raid at the Citadel hospital earlier in 2019, the 10 were taken into custody on suspicion of plotting to destabilize the nation. Thirteen witnesses, including officers from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), were called by the state.
The state also utilized video evidence throughout the trial to show how the defendants were allegedly planning to manufacture ammunition as part of their scheme to destabilize the nation.
All of the defendants, however, have finished their defenses and entered not guilty pleas to the accusations.
Since he died away last year, Dr. Mac Palm—at whose hospital the accused were taken—had his evidence rejected.
The accused, who according to the constitution might face the death penalty if proven guilty, will find out what happens after today’s verdict.
