Senegal defeated the 10-man Gambia 3-0 on Monday to begin their robust defense of the Africa Cup of Nations championship.Senegal took the lead after only four minutes thanks to an early assault that saw the ball fall to Sadio Mane, who squared it to Pape Gueye for a tidy finish.
The Gambia appeared capable of equalizing with the defending African champions, but Ebou Adams’ foolish choice to stomp on Lamine Camara’s leg and receive a red card made the task much more difficult. Ismaila Sarr’s feed to Camara allowed him to increase his team’s lead with a strong second-half display. But late in the game, Iliman Ndiaye’s brilliant skill to break free and pass to Camara, who scored a stunning goal from the edge of the box, was the real highlight of the match.
In addition to her two goals, Camara was a major contributor to Senegal. The midfield player attempted to inject some creativity into their assaults and had superb passing skills. Before he slammed in a beauty to finish it off, his first goal served as a decent reward for his efforts. In their second match of the campaign, Senegal will want to build on their winning start against Cameroon on January 19, while Gambia will try to recover against Guinea.
