Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, a Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur, is seeking to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.
From December 24 to 27, she will be performing nonstop in Accra, Ghana. Guinness World Records granted her application to attempt the record, and she intends to sing for more than 117 hours straight, breaking the current record held by Sunil Waghmare of India.
Asantewaa’s mission is to promote Ghanaian music globally, highlighting genres such as gospel, highlife, and hiplife. To accomplish this goal, she must sing approximately 3,200 different Ghanaian songs without repeating any of them, all while keeping to the tight rules established by Guinness World Records. Each song must be sung in under two minutes, making it a difficult and exhausting task.
Sunil Waghmare, the current record holder, achieved the feat in Nagpur, India, from March 3 to 7, 2012, by singing a broad selection of popular Indian songs without repetition in four hours. Asantewaa aspires to break this record and provide global attention to Ghanaian music.
The marathon singing event is scheduled to take place in Accra, and Asantewaa has invited the public to join her.
