The Minority Caucus in Parliament has stated that the administration has heavily indebted the country and intends to leave, leaving the economy insolvent.
This comes after Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta presented the government’s 2024 budget in Parliament on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
Mr. Ofori-Atta stated, among other things, that Ghana’s economy, which had fallen in recent years, has begun to show signs of life.
However, in response to the budget, Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson stated that the formerly sturdy economy handed over by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration is now on shaky ground because the NPP government has failed to live up to expectations.
He emphasized that the NPP government had left Ghanaians in poverty as a result of the country’s dire economic situation.
“Mr. Speaker, the government will be leaving behind a bankrupt economy. The government will be leaving the country in an ‘ahokyere’ state,” He stated.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Majority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, rejected the Minority Leader’s claim, emphasizing that “the economy was worse under the NDC.”
