Though it expressed disapproval of the Electoral Commission’s choice to hold the recent restricted voter registration drive at the district level, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) claims it does not oppose the intended display of the voter registration list.
The electoral administration organization declared on Wednesday that all 38,622 polling places nationwide will display the provisional voter registration from November 3 to November 7.
In an interview with Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Mustapha Gbande, the NDC’s deputy secretary, stated,
“It is not about being happy. Why centralize registration for people to go through stress? The EC made the registration cumbersome.”
Despite these reservations, he made it clear that the NDC was resolved to concentrate on understanding the electoral system in order to win the next elections, and that it would not get into any further arguments with the EC over the voter register exhibition exercise.
“That is the NDC’s position as far as this exercise is concerned. We have no objections to the exhibition they want to do. We will follow through, get people verified, and then we can move on to the district assembly elections.”
However, Mustapha Gbande declared that the NDC will not hesitate to raise concerns during the process if needed.
