According to a recent survey by two reputable research organizations, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the front-runner for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position.
Bawumia has a commanding lead over his opponents, with 80.8% of delegates supporting him, according to a survey by The Outcomes International in Ghana and the Centre for Sustainable African Development Initiatives (C-SADI) in the UK.
Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong is predicted to receive 10.4% of the vote, ahead of Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto (1.1%) and Francis Addai-Nimoh (0.4%). 7.3% of the delegates remain indecisive.
“H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has the highest level of support among the delegates, with about 80.8% followed by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong (10.4%), Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto (1.1%), and Hon. Francis Addai-Nimoh (0.4%). 7.3% of the delegates are still undecided,” said the report.
The results of the poll align with those of other recent surveys, all of which have indicated a sizable advantage for Bawumia.Kennedy Agyapong, who received 132 votes, or 14.30% of the total, to finish second behind Dr. Bawumia during the party’s Super Delegates Conference, produced a significant upset. It was predicted that Alan Kyeremanten would finish second. However, the survey now indicates that Dr. Bawumia is the front-runner, mostly due to his capacity, ability to win the 2024 presidential election, and vision for the party and the nation.“The main bases for assessing candidates by delegates are the vision of the candidate for the party, the vision of the candidate for the country, and the candidate’s competence.Delegates of the party believe the party stands a good chance of breaking the 8 if the performance of the government is improved and the party stay united after the primaries,” the report included details. The NPP’s flagbearer, or presidential candidate, will be chosen by more than two hundred thousand delegates on November 4, 2023, in preparation for the general elections in 2024. Up until now, every poll has predicted Dr. Bawumia to win handily.
