The Chief Executive Officer of the now-defunct gold dealership company Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah, gave the Ghana Police Service GH2.5 million, which it claims has been deposited at the Bank of Ghana.
The news was released by the military in a statement on October 24, 2023.
“The Police, on the advice of the Office of the Attorney-General (AG), on Friday, October 20, 2023, received an amount of GH₵2.5 million from the founder of the defunct Menzgold company, Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM 1. The said amount has been deposited in the Police Exhibit account at the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for the attention of the Court.”
According to the police department, the money is being used to investigate petitions filed against suspect Nana Appiah Mensah in the Accra High Court by certain clients of MenzGold Ghana Company Limited and Brew Marketing Consult Limited.
“We would like to state that the decision on the disbursement of the money would be determined by the court,”
In its statement, the police service also mentioned.
After being hauled before a court for allegedly cheating his clients, the CEO of the now-defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited was granted bail on September 19 in the amount of GH500 million with four sureties, none of whom could be shown to be justified.
As part of the bail requirements, he was also told to submit his passport at the court registry.
This comes after he entered a not guilty plea to 39 fraud and money laundering offenses for which he, Menzgold Ghana Limited, and Brew Marketing Consult are all on trial.
