Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, has encouraged the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership to reach out to former party stalwart Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen in an effort to persuade him to return to the party.
In September, Mr. Kyerematen resigned from the NPP and stated his ambition to head a movement as an independent candidate.
The Suame MP feels that making an approach to Mr. Kyerematen will address all concerns.
“I think that every effort must be made, even if it’s a one percent possibility, let’s see what will come out of it. We are talking about Alan’s situation, where we are saying that let’s still engage if he will come back. To now go into specifics will be a difficulty, it may hamper the reconciliation I’m suggesting. It’s possible to bring him back,”
In an interview with 3news, the Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs expressed his thoughts.
On September 25th, the former Minister of Trade and Industry announced his decision to leave the party and run as an independent candidate in the next 2024 elections.
He mentioned harassment of his supporters as well as the party being hijacked by a minority.
Mr. Kyerematen’s decision stunned the political establishment, as he had been a faithful member of the NPP for many years.
Mr. Kyerematen is a seasoned politician well-known for his NPP efforts and participation in numerous government posts.
