Former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has stated that if elected President in the 2024 elections, he will reconsider the Free Senior High School (SHS) program.
In an interview with UTV on Tuesday, Mr. Kyerematen stated that, while he applauded the NPP government’s efforts to make education more accessible through the Free SHS policy, he believes the policy should be reviewed after seven years of implementation.
Mr Kyerematen went on to detail his vision for the education sector, emphasizing the importance of a thorough assessment of the Free SHS policy.
“I will review Free SHS, we have done it for seven years, You cannot implement a programme for seven and not review it, so when I come there will be a comprehensive review of the free SHS. The original idea is good and I commend Akufo-Addo for it, but it has to be reviewed,” According to Mr. Kyerematen.
He went on to say that his government will not only ensure that the program guarantees children’s access to education, but will also sustain and improve the quality of education they get.
Mr. Kyerematen expanded on his ideas, emphasizing the importance of increasing investment in infrastructure, teacher training, and curriculum development.
He emphasized the significance of developing an education system that prepares students for both academic and practical issues.
