Princess Afia Ahenkan, a 35-year-old businesswoman who was murdered in Apaaso, a neighborhood near Sokoban, in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly of the Ashanti region, has confessed to the crime in court.
On September 14, 2023, Allister John, the primary suspect and the deceased’s security guard, and James Anokye, the suspect’s accomplice, were apprehended as part of a targeted intelligence-led operation.
The two suspects, according to the police, fled in the deceased’s private KIA Sportage with the license plate GS 307-21, which they later sold.
Since then, the vehicle was discovered at Adenta with all of its paperwork and seized at the Oyibi Police Station for additional investigation.
On September 15, 2023, the suspects were charged before the Asokore Mampong district court and ordered to appear again on October 3, 2023.
The alleged crime was a conspiracy between five people, including the two suspects who have been remanded, according to the case facts stated in court.
The prosecution pointed out that there are ongoing attempts being made to apprehend the other three suspects, who are currently at large.
Although the suspects’ plea was not accepted, the primary suspect, Allister John, acknowledged to the crime and accepted full responsibility for his conduct when the facts were presented to the suspects. However, once the facts were read to the suspects, John begged to the court for leniency.
In order to allow the police to continue their investigation, the prosecution asked the court to detain the suspects during the court proceedings.
