Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has pledged to complete all unfinished projects, including those began by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, if re-elected in 2024.
He described the NDC as a patriotic and well-meaning political party that believed in the spirit of continuity and was resolved not to squander taxpaying taxpayers’ resources.
“I’m making a promise that when we come, we will continue all abandoned projects.
Even projects that this current NPP government does not finish, we will continue and finish because they are funded by taxpayers’ money, so when you abandon them, you’re wasting the money of Ghanaians,” he said.
On Saturday, September 16, 2023, the former President stated this at the NDC Greater Accra Regional Zongo Caucus Stakeholders Forum in Accra.
The forum brought together representatives from various Zongo and Muslim sects, as well as institutions both inside and outside the party, to share their experiences and debate subjects of common interest in order to foster social links and a feeling of community.
Sheikh Usmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, was one of the forum’s important attendees.
Mr Mahama made the commitment after accusing the present administration of failing to complete key projects initiated by his party before leaving power in 2016, notably in Zongo villages.
“When we were sharing the E-Blocks, several of them were allocated to the Zongo and Muslim communities but many of those schools have been abandoned. We have done a lot in our Zongos but we are not the type who come with a paper and read. Our people can see for themselves the work the NDC did when we were in office,” he stressed.
Mr Mahama expressed his thanks for the overwhelming support his party has received from Zongo communities and the Islamic fraternity over the years, and vowed to never take it for granted again.
In this respect, he stated that the party will continue to interact and engage them on a regular basis in order to collect grievances and concerns and work toward resolving them.
“We appreciate that support and that’s why anytime we come to power, we try to make sure that when we are sharing the National cake and development, the Zongos get their fair share,” the 2024 NDC flag bearer added.
He took use of the occasion to urge all citizens of voting age to participate in the ongoing restricted voter registration, and he also urged officials in charge to refrain from discriminating against those they thought to be Ghanaians only based on their names.
“Everybody came from somewhere and that is why Ghana is a strong nation.
We are united in our variety and traditions, therefore we must understand that we are all Ghanaians with equal rights to be recognized as such,” remarked the former President.

Ismaila Ali Horoya, the NDC Greater Accra Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator, stated that the caucus organized the forum because the caucus recognized the enormous potential within the neighborhoods and that it was the collective responsibility of all members to harness that potential and provide opportunities for the Muslim youth.
The NDC Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has called for greater unity within the party as it prepares for the upcoming elections, urging all to rally behind the regional chapter’s “Agenda 25” and stating that “Greater Accra will strive to add 500,000 votes to the total votes.”
