Shatta Wale, the Dancehall King, has spoken out against the music industry’s portrayal of him as a violent and drug-addicted individual.
He described himself as a “Dada Bee” who never used insults until he started playing music.
During a Twitter chat with Serwaa Amihere, Shatta Wale said that he began acting aggressively to confront the false narratives being disseminated about him.
“Ghanaians have made me a monster, because this is a Dada Bee boy that left his daddy’s house and did not know anything about insults but when I came on the streets and started hustling, I met people that were teaching me respect, but when my music popped up well I had people saying things that they did not know about me. Serwaa , if someone calls you a drug addict, will you behave normal? I am not a drug addict.”
When asked why it bothers him when people call him a drug addict if he is not a drug addict, he said ; “If you are building a house and someone comes to break the house, will you behave normal?.”
Shatta Wale claimed that his impression as a drug user and rude person generated a “monster” within him.
The ‘Gringo’ hitmaker has often denied any involvement with drugs or alcohol, insisting that he does not consume beer or smoke marijuana, contrary to popular belief.
Wale clarified his views on drug usage. He highlighted that he had stopped consuming pot to demonstrate that his motivation stemmed from a higher source – his trust in God and his love of dancehall music. He did, however, admit to smoking cigarettes on occasion.
