The Minority caucus in Parliament has been called by the Accra Regional Police Command to a meeting this afternoon, Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
The purpose of the conference is to discuss the minority’s planned protest against the governor and his two deputies of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
In a letter to the Minority, the Greater Accra Regional Police Command stated that the purpose of the meeting was for the parties to discuss the specifics of the planned demonstration.
The AriseGhana leadership has also committed to attending the crucial conference.
The Bank of Ghana is now under fire for its self-inflicted losses in the fiscal year 2022, as well as its intention to build a new head office at a cost of $250 million.
Meanwhile, Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, said the Minority would continue its investigation into the $250 million allotted for the construction of the Bank of Ghana’s new headquarters.
The MP claims that the governor’s answer, Dr Ernest Addison, aggravates the problem and demands for additional inquiry.
Dr. Addison denied on Monday that the Central Bank violated procurement regulations in its pursuit of the edifice’s development.
However, in an interview with Citi News, the Bawku Central MP requested that the governor resign and stated that the Minority will go to whatever length to remove the governor of the Central Bank and his deputies.
“The first thing is the governor and his deputies must resign because we don’t have confidence in them, and they are a waste of public resources, and we are law-abiding citizens, so we will go and meet the police command and discuss the entire programme for the protest that we are organizing.”
