According to reliable sources, over 200 reports have been received by notable individuals expressing worries about the source of the stolen cash, which were allegedly taken by the former Minister’s two house helpers.
On Saturday, July 22, 2023, Madam Cecilia Dapaah announced her resignation. Her resignation came when it was revealed that her housekeepers had reportedly taken large sums of both international and local currency from her Accra apartment. The incident sent shockwaves across the country, leaving many stunned.
At the moment, two housekeepers, Patience Botwe, 18, and Sarah Agyei, 30, are facing charges in an Accra Circuit Court for their involvement in the heist. They are accused of stealing $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian cedis from Madam Dapaah’s mansion in Abelenkpe, Accra, between July and October 2022.
The OSP has not yet stated if it would launch an investigation into the incident; nevertheless, the OSP does not often require a formal report or petition to launch an investigation into suspected corruption instances.
Some Ghanaians have also gone to social media to urge the Special Prosecutor to speed up the probe into the origins of the stolen monies.
The situation has left many Ghanaians eager for answers, as Madam Dapaah is yet to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the origin of the monies stolen from her home, which she shared with her husband.
