John Dumelo, a well-known actor who has transitioned to farming, is increasing his portfolio of agricultural endeavors by adding cannabis production.
Mr. Dumelo sees the growing of cannabis as a viable addition to his business ventures, which already include the successful production of crops like ginger, tubers, wheat, and poultry husbandry.
His choice was made in light of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) Bill, 2023’s recent passage by the legislature on July 12.
This new legislation gives the Interior Ministry the jurisdiction to award licenses for the cultivation of cannabis for industrial or therapeutic uses, provided that it has a THC content of no more than 0.3% on dry weight.
Mr. Dumelo enthusiastically embraced this significant milestone in Ghana’s history, expressing his excitement for the progress. He sees it as an opportunity to start growing marijuana, seeing the potential benefits it could have in a variety of fields.
John Dumelo intends to advance Ghana’s agricultural sector while exploring the potential advantages of this adaptable crop by embracing the evolving legal framework and pursuing responsible, regulated cannabis growing.
