The Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) Director of Planning, Richard Oduro, has stated that the assembly will probe the purported GH300 price paid by certain homeowners in North Kaneshie in the Mukose electoral area to an assembly member to have their drains desilted.
Residents of North Kaneshie in the Accra Metropolitan Assembly are protesting against Assembly officials for reportedly paying a GH300 fee to have drains in the area desilted.
During his visit of the area, the people addressed the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, Dan Botwe, and revealed that they were forced to contribute the stated sum to the desilting exercise.
As a result, Mr Oduro stated that the matter would be brought before the assembly’s management to determine whether it was real or not.

He was speaking in Accra on Tuesday as part of the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, Dan Botwe’s, visit to the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project recipient Municipal Assemblies.
Mr Oduro stated that the assembly had been granted the funding needed to do the desilting effort, but he would not be shocked if the citizens’ claims were genuine.
“Funds have been released to us under GARID to do the desilting works, so it cannot be true.” It’s an allegation, and we’ll look into it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if residents and individuals organized particular groups to carry out such activities for them,” he said.
