If the government fails to pay its members’ two-year arrears by Friday, June 16, the National Food Suppliers Association says it would likely seek legal action.
As part of the actions to have the arrears cleared, the association will commence a series of picketing at the National Food Buffer Stock Company’s headquarters on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
According to the group, all efforts to have the government pay the over GH200 million owing to its members have failed, therefore the decision to protest at the National Buffer Stock Company’s office.
Members will no longer be moved by empty promises from the administration, according to the association’s spokesperson, Kwaku Amedume.
Mr. Amedume indicated that the money owed to the Buffer Stock Company’s members has depreciated over time, and that the only way to convince the government to do the right thing is to file legal proceedings.
“We will be proceeding to court because the money we are taking from the government is without interest and the money has been with the government for two years. So if we must go to court, we will be asking for interest on our money because we are spending so much to get this money. We will be asking for damages and compensations and anything that our lawyers may deem proper.”
