Three business owners in Achimota, an Accra suburb, have been arrested for violating Ghana’s tax regulations.
The move is part of the GRA’s ongoing effort to make businesses comply with the VAT issue regime as a civil responsibility.
Since the start of the special exercise, at least 50 business owners have been cited for wrongdoing.
During today’s exercise, it was discovered that business owners were issuing their own invoices in addition to those issued by the GRA.
The GRA delegate warned the defaulting enterprises to follow the laws that govern their activity and to avoid incurring the GRA’s anger.“Per the relevant sections of the law, you are not permitted to issue your own invoices, you are supposed to issue the Commissioner General’s invoice or any invoice approved by the Commissioner General so that is why we are here to educate you.”
