Akuapem Poloo, a Ghanaian actress and video vixen, recently described her personal journey of converting from Christianity to Islam, as well as the particular hurdles she met along the route.
Poloo emphasized her challenges in transitioning to the Islamic religion, which forbids some practices she was accustomed to as a Christian, in an interview with Sammy Kay. She discussed the challenges she has in reconciling her previous habits with the new norms imposed by her faith.
Poloo stated that her attendance at the Mosque has considerably changed her attitude and conduct, making it difficult for her to engage in twerking and other crazy dances that were formerly a part of her persona.
This internal conflict between her past and present identities has been a serious challenge for her as she attempts to connect her behaviors with her newly discovered religious beliefs.
Despite the difficulties, Poloo admitted that embracing Islam had provided her with new opportunities. She expressed her tremendous joy at finally meeting the National Chief Imam, a revered figure in the Islamic society. She got the opportunity to interact with the Chief Imam as a result of her conversion, and she felt a tremendous feeling of fulfillment.
Furthermore, Poloo described a unique incident in which her Muslim background garnered her respect and a special invitation to the Suhum Odwira Festival. This cultural event gave her the opportunity to connect with high-profile people, including Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
