A client at Gbetsile in Accra has received a summons letter from the Afienya District of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for improperly connecting power to 33 nearby structures.
The discovery was uncovered during the most recent national revenue mobilization operation conducted by ECG, which began on May 29 and is scheduled to expire on June 2, 2023.
When the consumer saw an ECG employee, they left. However, the team could access the meter because it was outside his property.
Some residents who the ECG officers spoke with stated they were paying the meter owner on a monthly basis for the electricity they were using.
The Tema Regional Office of the ECG’s public relations officer requested the perpetrator to come forward so that further action may be taken.
“This customer has decided to distribute power to the other 33 structures. Further checks also revealed that the owner of the meter had done an illegal connection in the form of a meter bypass, which means that all the power they are using does not pass through the meter, so they are not paying for using the power.
“The culprit fled upon seeing the ECG personnel, so we could not get him. We have served a summons letter and asked that he reports to the Tema ECG office, and if it gets to prosecution, we will do that.”
