Police in the Eastern Region have launched an investigation into the death of a 5-year-old girl at Ada Magazine in the Eastern Region’s New Juaben South Municipality.
The youngster, Kukua Esther, died when their building collapsed on her during Saturday’s storm, according to sources.
The girl was in the building with her 7-year-old brother when the sad tragedy occurred.
Both children were taken to Koforidua Central Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced the girl dead.
The child, who suffered serious injuries, is still being treated, while the young girl’s body has been deposited at the Eastern Regional Hospital mortuary.
The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the Ghana Police Service have begun investigations after visiting the location.
Diana Labotey, the children’s mother, described the situation as follows: “The children were standing behind me in the kitchen, but I noticed they were feeling cold, so I asked them to come into the room.” After about 10 minutes, I heard a huge noise and raced into the room, where I discovered the back of the building had collapsed on the children.
