At the Korle Teye Takorso site in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region, rescue efforts are being made to recover the bodies of 17 people who were trapped when the mining hole they were working in collapsed on them.
According to accounts, 7 of the 9 people who were pulled alive from the rubble shortly after the collapse have been identified as dead.
Although the exact cause of the pit’s collapse is unknown, several members of the community feel that Monday’s [May 15] widespread severe rainfall may have had a role.According to Citi News, the villagers and other miners in the region who chased away reporters who went to the scene to report on the terrible tragedy are now in charge of the rescue effort.After a local ambulance was dispatched, the recovered bodies were later placed at the morgue.
