An Arsenal supporter who used a laser pointer to attack Chelsea player Mykhailo Mudryk during the London derby on Tuesday at Emirates Stadium has been taken into custody.
During Chelsea’s 3-1 loss, Mudryk came on as a second-half substitute and played for the final 19 minutes as the Blues lost for the sixth straight game overall.
Television footage revealed that while he was on the field, a green laser pen was constantly aiming at him. The athlete afterwards posted on social media that he was “okay” despite this.
Following the incident, Arsenal has now issued a statement calling the behavior “dangerous and totally unacceptable” and confirming that a fan was detained after the game.
“An arrest has been made following the use of a laser during last night’s match,” the club statement read.
“This behaviour is dangerous and totally unacceptable. We will fully support the police with their enquiries and take action as appropriate.”
Mudryk initially appeared destined to sign with Arsenal in January but instead chose Chelsea as the west London club outbid their rivals at the very last minute. When the Ukraine international came off the bench on Tuesday night, he was booed each time he touched the ball.
