According to artist manager Bulldog, the creative industry is the only one in Ghana that conducts significant business but is mostly ignored.
He claims that no other ministry or agency of the government is carrying out its responsibilities or carrying out its tasks in a way that will improve the lives of Ghanaians.
In an interview with Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Bulldog claimed that the entertainment sector deserved serious consideration and funding because it generates exports that successfully market the nation.
“The only real industry in Ghana is the entertainment industry, yet we continue to import things like tomatoes, chicken, and toothpicks. No music is imported by us. In contrast to these other businesses, we are producing more music, he said.
Concerned about the country’s lax approach to the arts, Dada Hafco told Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z that Ghana would benefit more from increased investment in the field.
Bulldog went on to say that the government’s investment in football has not produced the outcomes that were expected. In contrast to other industries, he argued that the government should invest in the creative sector because it has the capacity to produce income.
He explained that although Ghana has enormous territory to produce a lot of these items, the government, particularly the Agricultural Ministry, still imports them.
Bulldog further recommended that the government direct funding toward enhancing the creative sector because it has the ability to produce income in contrast to other industries.
