Ed Sheeran has admitted that things haven’t always been easy in his life, but he’s kept it all to himself.
According to the musician, who has admitted to struggling with mental illness, his wife, Cherry Seaborn, was diagnosed with a tumor while she was pregnant with their second kid.
In a diary entry taken by Annie Liebowitz, the British singer-songwriter announced his new album by saying that a series of events at the beginning of last year impacted his life, mental health, and the way he approaches music and art.
“Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got notified she had a tumour, with no option for treatment until after the birth.
“After my best friend Jamal, who was like a brother to me, died unexpectedly, I found myself in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter,” he wrote.
Ed Sheeran revealed insights about his new album, (Subtract), saying that his wife Cherry Seaborn had a medical scare during her pregnancy.
The singer is set to release his fifth studio album soon.
According to a press release, the project will be released on May 5, at a time when the musician’s life has undergone significant transformation, including the birth of his second daughter with wife Cherry Seaborn last May.
“I had been working on Subtract for a decade, trying to create the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I felt it should be,” Sheeran said in a statement.
Among those events are his legal success in a copyright infringement battle involving his single 2017 hit “Shape of You,” his grief over the death of friend Jamal Edwards, who died last February at the age of 31—and a medical crisis in his family.
