De Thompson DDT, a musician and sound engineer born Elijah Nortey Thompson, claims that doing music in Ghana will leave you broke and hungry.
All people who claim to have made it in music, he claims, are lying.
“As for Ghana, if you come here and decide to pursue music, you may go hungry, and it’s true, so if someone tells you that they’ve made it through music, it’s a lie,” he stated.
Making money in the Ghanaian entertainment industry, according to the music producer and ‘Yeni Da Ho’ crooner, is challenging due to the large investments.
“Let me explain that if someone says he made it through movies or music, it’s impossible since the only money in the entertainment world is football,” he continued.
“Because when it comes to music, you’ll spend a lot of money to go record your song and shoot a music video, but everywhere you take the song, you have to pay before they’ll play,”
“The only time you get money from music is when you are billed to play at an event, but how will you get your money back if the song doesn’t make that peak?” he told Amansan Krakye via Showbiz on Property. The talented musical producer is noted for tracks such as Ogoglogo, Skrewfaze’s iconic and monstrous hit, I no go lie, and his production credits on hit singles by young Ghanaian rapper Fotocopy, which features Shatta Wale.
