Mr. Benjamin Kofi Quashie, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress’ South African Council of Elders and Group Chairman of Allied Consortiums, has questioned the government of Nana Akufo Addo’s ability to honor the new bond arrangements.
According to him, former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo’s participation in the picketing outside the Finance Ministry to demand that pensioners be excluded from the new bond arrangement demonstrates that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-government Addo’s cannot be trusted.

“This government is not one that you can trust. This government is not one you can go home and believe that whatever they’re doing in terms of the debt structure is something that would inure to the benefit of pensioners”, he stated.
He contended that the government sold bonds and misapplied the money during the Covid-19 period, as shown by the Auditor General’s report, as a reason why the government cannot be trusted.
“Now the same government comes beseeching everyone to come and help out in the name of Domestic Debt Exchange Programme. How can one trust such a government?”, he quizzed.
“The arrogance, the sheer arrogance with which they are doing it is nauseating,” the Allied Consortiums Group Chair added.
When he made such remarks, the Chairman of the SA National Democratic Congress Council of Elders was speaking in an interview with Joy News.
“We have a president who promised to fight galamsey. What has happened to that? How do you trust such a government with your money?” he quizzed again.
According to him, when the Debt Exchange Programme difficulties first arose, the president, Finance Minister, and other government spokespersons stated that there would be no haircut.
“Today we have it. President Mahama said it, they laughed at him and called him a doomsayer. Today, the reality has dawned on us. We can’t trust them until they begin to do what is necessary and we see them lead by example,” he ended.
