Her remarks come at a time when there are numerous debates about women, their lives, and their sources of money.
Idia Aisien, a Nigerian actress and model, has spoken out about how women are perceived in her country.
In an interview with media personality Chude Judeonwo, the actress highlighted the criticism that accompanied her breakthrough performance in Play Network’s ‘Nneka The Pretty Serpent.’
She remarked, “When it first came out in the movies, I was a little bit heartbroken by some of the remarks that people were leaving.
Comments about me not being light-skinned or Igbo, about destroying something important to many Nigerians.
Nigerians adored older actors.
They adore Nollywood classics.
So it was something I wished people could understand how much passion was put into it at the time.”
Aisien went on to say that the Nigerian community needs to appreciate and love women more.
Many Nigerians, she claims, ascribe women’s success to their male counterparts because they don’t like or respect them.
“Nigerians need to be kinder to women; we don’t like women in our country because of everything in terms of employment, money, and how women are treated,” she remarked.
Aisien connects her statement to the criticism that followed the films, claiming that the main reason for the criticism was because of who played Nneka, her complexion, and so on.
“I was sad at first since Nneka is a fictional character and everybody may contribute something different to the character, but I don’t think tribe or skin color should matter,” she explained.
I mean, Black Panther was Americans claiming to be Africans.
Many individuals who criticized it (the film- Nneka the Pretty Serpent) did so because of Nneka’s choice, which hurt my heart.”
Her remarks come at a time when there are numerous debates about women, their lives, and their sources of money.
OAP Nedu was recently chastised for making disparaging statements about women.
Former BBNaija housemates and other celebrities spoke out against Nedu’s offensive remarks regarding women.
On an episode of his show Honest Bunch According to Nedu many girls who enter the BBNaija home go there to find customers for sex because that is all they have to give.
