On December 17, 2022, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will have its National Delegates’ Congress, and former president John Mahama has urged Ghanaians to contribute GH10 to help pay for it.
Over 9,000 delegates are anticipated to attend the congress in the Accra Sports Stadium, where national officers of the party will be chosen for four years. Mahama asked 500,000 willing Ghanaians, NDC supporters, sympathizers, and friends to pay a minimum of 10 Ghana Cedis apiece to assist us to fund the congress in a Facebook post that read, “The party needs your support to fund this Congress.” You don’t have to be an NDC member to give, he said.
He provided a MoMo number where the contributions were to be sent. However, the party has made a list of every competent applicant for posts in the national executive branch. To be eligible to run for office, 81 candidates through the screening and voting procedures.
The Chairman, Vice-Chairman, General Secretary and Deputy General Secretary, Organiser and Deputy Organiser, Communication Officer and Deputy Communication Officer are the posts that are up for grabs in the nationwide competition.
The Youth Organiser and Deputy Youth Organiser, Zongo Caucus Coordinator, Youth Organiser and Deputy Youth Organiser, and members of the National Executive Committee make up the remaining group. Four pillars of the party would compete for the office of National Chairman.
They are the current National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the current General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, a former Greater Accra Regional Minister named Nii Armah Ashitey, and a former Works and Housing Deputy Minister named Samuel Yaw Adusei.
Peter Boamah Otokunor, the NDC’s director of elections, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, and Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, a former member of parliament for Ketu South, are vying for the position of general secretary in another heated race.
Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw, the incumbent, and Margaret Ansei, a former MCE for Suhum, would square off in a direct fight for the position of women’s organizer. George Opare Addo, the current youth organizer, and Brogya Genfi, the youth organizer for the Ashanti Region, would compete for the position.
