Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Assin Central representative to parliament, has said that he will prevail in the race to become the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) leader in the upcoming general elections.
The outspoken congressman asserted that he did not doubt that party delegates will give him the authority to “break the 8” for the governing party. The businessman-turned-politician expressed optimism for the party and Ghana in remarks to traders in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region.
“There is hope, let’s keep hope alive. I will consult with all relevant stakeholders to see how best we can help you. When I come to a place like this, I try to avoid politics. “But I am being told to share my aim for this visit. All I am saying is that, come 2024, I will lead the NPP,” he said to loud applause.
The CEO of KenCity Media also emphasized his qualifications as a trader in the past, saying, “Leaders have come and gone, but none of them had a trader for a mother. My mother operated a store in Okaishie. “I know your struggles and how you suffer to cater for your children, so I am a product of trading and of the street. So, I will do all it takes to protect the interest of women,” he said.
To increase security in the region, he also pledged to support the market with 200 lighting and poles. He also vowed to encourage the roads minister to consider the hardship of traders in light of the state of roads.
Furthermore, he committed to looking into the matter of MASLOC loans that had not been received by all of the dealers. At the premises, hundreds of traders shouted for Agyapong and gave him a warm welcome.
Vice President Mahamudu Bauwima and Minister of Trade and Industry Alan Kyeremanteng are anticipated to be Kennedy Agyapong’s fiercest rivals for the position of flagbearer.
