Akon, a Senegalese-American singer, has joined the lengthy list of celebrities who have fallen for Konongo-born artist Black Sherif’s charms.
When asked what he thinks about Black Sherif on BBC Radio, Akon couldn’t hold back his admiration.
He afterwards lavished adulation on the Ghanaian artist on live radio.
the Lonely hitmaker expressed a lot of good things about Black Sherif’s career, including how his ambition for success reminds him (Akon) of when he was coming up in the industry, and that he might sign the 20-year-old singer if necessary.
“This kid is going to be something stupid and if no major picks him up, they need to get to him before I do.”
According to the businessman, he was sold the moment his Malian friend put him on Blacko’s sound.
“I’m a huge fan of Black Sherif, he reminded me of the energy of myself when I first came out, you could literally hear the pain, the struggle and the challenges in his voice whenever he sings.”
For him, Blacko’s message symbolizes the new generation’s desperation to prosper on the African continent.
“He is currently the voice of the youth in Africa,” he said
Akon also described how he felt the first time he heard Black Sherif’s song.
“ I was in New York City when a friend of mine named Bako from Mali played his song and I was like yo, Who the F was that? Bro, like you, can hear in his voice, like, you can feel the pain, the struggles, you hear the challenges but you can hear a ghetto kid just wanting to get out.”
Blacko has had a fantastic two years, particularly after the publication of his album, The Villain I Never Was, which has received critical acclaim for its range, drive, and deep message.
He recently performed in his debut concert in the United Kingdom, followed by a riveting performance at the 2020 MOBO Awards.
At the Ghana Music Awards UK, he was named 2022 Artiste of the Year.
He has worked with Burna Boy, Stormzy, and Sarkodie, among other music industry heavyweights.
Blacko is winning in a unique way, and we are rooting for him
