Asamoah Gyan, a Ghana icon, has completed his Uefa-B License at the famed Wales coaching institute.
In June, the former Black Stars skipper registered at the Football Association of Wales coaching institute and has already finished his badge as he prepared for his post-playing days.
Gyan has yet to officially retire, although he has been out of action for nearly two years due to an injury sustained while playing for Ghana Premier League team Legon Cities FC.
“Your UEFA License coach has arrived. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen, especially the Wales FA. “January 2023 coaching clinic loading is just the beginning,” Gyan remarked in a social media post.
Former Manchester City and Ivory Coast legend Yaya Toure, now an academy coach at Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal great Thierry Henry have all coached at the Welsh club.
Gyan indicated a desire to return to the national squad ahead of the 2022 World Cup, but his hope for a fourth appearance in the global tournament did not come true.
The striker, Ghana’s all-time greatest scorer with 51 goals from 109 matches, has been the Black Stars’ poster boy in a number of competitions, most notably the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, when he scored three goals to send his country to the quarter-finals.
The UEFA-B Licence is one level lower than the UEFA-A Licence and entitles holders to be head coaches of men’s amateur clubs, youth teams up to the age of 16, and assistant coaches for professional clubs.
Gyan has been a vocal supporter of the Black Stars and will join fans in rallying behind the team when they kick off their World Cup campaign against Portugal on November 24.
